FAQ: Licensing + Scheduling
Clear expectations from booking to delivery—how licensing works for video projects, what’s included in usage, and how we schedule efficiently around access, light, and review timelines.
Licensing + Scheduling (Cinematography)
Video projects typically involve more steps than stills—capture, edit, color, music, and review rounds. These FAQs cover how usage/licensing works and how we schedule the process so deadlines are realistic and the final film stays premium.
1) Do we “own” the video?
You’re licensing usage of the finished film (how it can be used), while I retain the copyright as the creator. Your proposal outlines the license clearly so your team can publish with confidence.
2) What’s typically included in a video license?
Most projects include marketing usage for the commissioning client: website, social, email, presentations, and standard PR. If you need broader usage (multi-brand rollouts, extended campaigns, or large paid distribution), we’ll structure the license accordingly.
3) Can we use the film in paid ads?
Paid advertising can be included, but it should be specified. Ads usually have higher reach and frequency than organic posts. Tell me the channels (Meta, YouTube, Google, display) and duration and I’ll align the license to the campaign.
4) What about music licensing?
Music must be properly licensed. I use licensed tracks appropriate for web/social usage. If you’re running paid ads or have a brand-approved music library, we’ll select a track that fits the intended usage.
5) What if a third party wants to use the film (agency, partner, vendor, property group)?
Third-party usage is handled as a separate license (or a defined add-on) so rights are clear and everyone is protected. If you already know who needs usage, we can plan it up front.
6) How far in advance should we schedule?
Earlier is better—especially if we need specific light windows, talent/people on-site, or multiple locations. Once scope is defined, I’ll recommend a realistic production and delivery timeline.
7) What do you need from us to lock the date?
A confirmed scope (what we’re filming), your primary goal, and where the video will be published. From there, we align on deliverables, schedule, and usage so expectations are clear.
8) What happens if we need to reschedule?
Reschedules happen—weather, access, staffing, and readiness can shift. With reasonable notice, we’ll move the date cleanly. Your booking terms outline notice windows and any costs tied to last-minute changes.
9) How many review/revision rounds are included?
Most projects include a defined review process—typically one or two structured revision rounds. Clear feedback (timestamps + notes) keeps revisions efficient and protects the final quality.
10) What’s the typical turnaround time?
Turnaround depends on scope, complexity, and the number of deliverables. If you have a launch date or campaign deadline, share it up front and I’ll structure a delivery plan that supports it.
11) Can we add more deliverables after the project is underway?
Yes—if you decide you need additional cutdowns, alternate versions, or a second film, we can add scope and align on a new delivery plan. The cleaner we define deliverables up front, the smoother the edit process stays.
